Bioware’s Mass Effect Andromeda could learn a lot from The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

I have played a lot of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. CD Projekt RED were not kidding around when they dangled 200+ hours of gameplay before my eyes. I am a feverish completionist when it comes to roleplaying games (RPGs), and I can say without pause that through my adventures in Witcher 3, I was not bored once. The only other RPG franchise that has held my attention continuously for this long was the ‘original’ Mass Effect trilogy.

With that thought, I simply had to write this piece. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been fabulous for gaming. It has perfected the concept The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim proved (that of a sprawling open world), it has [...]

E3 2015: Warhorse Studios

During E3 this year, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with developers Warhorse Studios, makers of the upcoming Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The interview was held inside the relatively small cubicle that was assigned to every studio or company looking to have press inside, and Warhorse had decked theirs out nicely with posters, shirts, hats, a top-of-the-line PC, and a giant 4k TV screen. During the interview, I was able to watch and play Kingdom Come while I was being guided through the world and development process by Daniel Vávra. The game was impressive, to say the least – stellar visuals, truly ambitious design, AI that extends to even the farm animals, and realistic combat [...]

FemFreak Out: Anger and Inaccuracy After Posters Appear at E3 2015

Great things happened at and during the 2015 E3 event. Nintendo released information on their future console. Square Enix regained the faith of once-disillusioned fans with their Final Fantasy VII remake. GamerGate held a successful meetup that featured photos with Mercedes Carrera and Jennie Bharaj rather than fire alarms and bomb threats. Anita Sarkeesian and John McIntosh even attended and put in their two cents on gaming booth babes, videogame violence, and US military recruitment via Twitter. Everyone was having a good time.

But on the last day of E3, posters were found glued to traffic posts around the Los Angeles Convention Center, from the Pico exit on the [...]

E3 2015 Hands-On: Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to play on a level of the upcoming entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. While I was playing, a developer from Ubisoft walked me through the level and pointed out the design changes and new features they added to the game, which were numerous and readily apparent.

The preview level was shown at the Ubisoft booth, which was arranged in a semi-circle of large displays, PS4s, and headphones. I have played all the previous Assassin’s Creed games on the Xbox, so adjusting to the feel of the controls on the PS4 was a small challenge, even though they’re very close to the same. Once I got a [...]

E3 2015 Hands-On: Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash

Buried in the far corner of the Nintendo booth this year was a gem I hadn’t heard about – Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash. Mario Tennis has always been a fun, casual entry in the Nintendo lineup, and I was intrigued if they’d made any significant changes to the Wii U version of the franchise. Nintendo did not disappoint!

I played against another convention-goer as Bowser, facing off against his Mario. Ultra Smash has thrown in the addition of power-ups to Mario Tennis, and while there was only one on display in this version of the game – the mega mushroom – it was still a nice quirk of the gameplay. Occasionally a mega mushroom would be thrown into the court from the side, and it [...]

Gaming on a Budget E3 2015 Edition

This week on Gaming on a Budget we take a look at PSN’s celebratory E3 Sale and we have some real goodies for you all.

The game that started it all and brought integrity back to Bruce Wayne’s name, just when we all thought the franchise was dead. Featuring the original voices of Mark Hamill as the Joker and Batman as Kevin Conroy, you can’t go wrong! Batman is bringing the Joker into Arkham Asylum which has undergone a security upgrade, but something’s wrong. Joker seems too pleased to be back home. The Asylum’s been taken over by madmen and only Batman can stop them. With all his gadgets and upgrades, Batman: Arkham Asylum is easily one [...]

E3 2015: Interview with Daniel Vávra on Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Update: Added one more question that was asked after the interview -ED.

APGNation’s Garrett Bridges had a chance to sit down with Daniel Vávra, co-founder of Warhorse Studios, to talk about and play some of their upcoming game Kingdom Come: Deliverance at E3.

Vávra gave us the inside scoop, talking about how massive his studio plans for the in-game world to be, with the current Alpha taking over five hours to complete. Every area of the game is based on real places, and the player can perform many immersive role play actions; Vávra even describing a grave-digging (maybe even grave robbing?) mechanic. He also confirmed that horse customization will be in the game, [...]

Frontier Studios have announced a new game similar to Rollercoaster Tycoon and Bullfrog’s Theme Park World called Planet Coaster.

Announced via the PC Gaming Show at E3 hosted by PC Gamer, Frontier Studios took a break from space to show us all something that’s a complete 180 for the successful space sim company. Frontier Studio’s CEO David Braben was happy to announce Planet Coaster: Simulation Evolved as “something the company has wanted to do for a while”, and something they “hope will revitalize the genre”.  Braben then showed off the world premiere trailer for Planet Coaster: Simulation Evolved.

During the PC conference at E3 just moments ago, a brand new expansion pack to the recently released RPG, Pillars of Eternity, titled The White March. A short teaser for the story was presented with a short Q&A by the developer. The developer stated that they plan to create content in the expansion to rival the size of the base game, which is great news for those that fell in love with the original title.
