In 2007, Bungie revolutionised the Halo franchise with its addition of the original Forge feature to Halo 3. An instant fan favourite, Forge allowed players to modify or build maps for multiplayer games, unleashing the creative power of a millions-strong fan base. However, earlier today 343 Industries seems to be throwing us Halo fans another curve-ball by allowing players to develop Forge maps for Halo 5 Guardians on the PC through Microsoft Windows 10.What to expect?
The first thing to note is that Halo 5 Guardians is still a Xbox One exclusive title. Secondly, the app will be free, and available only to Windows 10 users. Marketed as Forge – Halo [...]
Yesterday Eurogamer reported that Bioware senior character artist Furio Tedeschi posted a picture of the new armour for Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s lead character the Pathfinder. The high-resolution image shows the male character model, including the iconic N7 logos and a very Mass Effect-esque silhouette. The post on Zbrush Central read “our Pathfinder character model at Bioware Montreal…. for Mass Effect Andromeda – Modeled By Herbert Lowis [another Bioware artist]” It is an absolute treat for Mass Effect fans, who have been starved for details until now.
Anyway, the images below are from his forum post. However, you can see more of the model, [...]
In a preview for their Free Spring/Summer 200116 Content, 343 Industries the developers of Halo 5: Guardians teased the return of fan favourite Firefight. Firefight, first introduced in Halo 3: ODST was a PvE wave based co-operative game type. 343i promise that Guardians’ incarnation, dubbed ‘Warzone Firefight’, “will bring PvE to Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer”, and that they will keep us up-to-date over the coming months. The new name may indicate some connection with the current Warzone game types, possibly by using the same maps or borrowing elements of the formula. Whatever the case it is exciting news for those hankering for some more PvE.Exciting Future [...]
Hidden among the announcements of new shows and films coming to Netflix in March was the animated series, Hal0: The Fall of Reach. Previously only available in the Limited and Collector’s Editions of Halo 5: Guardians, the game was met with mixed reception. Accordingly, many fans were put off by the style and voice acting, as well as the overall production value of the mini-series.
All that said, it is nice to see them following up on Halo: Forward Unto Dawn which was also released on Netflix. The Fall of Reach, which is based on the novel of the same name, explores the origins of the Spartan Two program, Master Chief’s blue team, and the iconic MJOLNIR armour. [...]
In last week’s Let’s Talk Xbox I covered the start of the February 2016 Season for Halo 5: Guardians Arena, the matchmaking improvements it brought and the new Arena REQ Bundle. Over the weekend, 343 Industries published the preview for their February update, Hammer Storm, on Halo Waypoint. The update will include a new Arena map, two armour sets, the return of Griffball, and updates to armour and emblem personalisation.
I am happy to see the return of fan favourite game type Griffball, and the addition of Assault, Fiesta and custom game types such as Oddball and Ricochet will add some much-needed depth to the multiplayer experience. That said, I want some [...]
There is one word that describes Homefront: The Revolution’s beta perfectly, janky. The graphics harken back to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the framerate is jerky at the best of times, and the collision detection is just pathetic. To put it bluntly, this game in its current state would have only just passed as triple-A on last-gen consoles. Now, you may say “beta is beta”, but frankly, even for a ‘closed’ beta this lacks polish. It is rough, and that makes it hard to play.
However, that does not mean it is not fun. The game has some interesting ideas and mechanics. I like the squad based interactions, the stealth aspects, the hacking enemy vehicles, and I even like the [...]
Unravel by Coldwood Interactive was a huge surprise for me. While the hype was certainly a contributing factor, what grabbed me and led me to download the EA Access 10 hour trial was the simplistic beauty I had seen in gameplay trailers. If you take one thing away from this first impression, let it be that this game is gorgeous. Strangely, I found myself absorbed by Unravel to a similar degree as full priced triple-A titles, despite stylized sidescrollers being one of my least played genres.
For the trial (and I imagine the full version of the game), you start out watching an extended version of the story trailer cutscene before being introduced to Yarny, an adorable [...]
In case you haven’t been on your console in the last few of days, here is some Xbox news for your eyeballs.
Last week I covered Halo 5: Guardians‘ latest update Infinity’s Armor. The update brought new REQs, two new multiplayer maps (Riptide for Arena and Urban for Warzone Assault), and the return of the Halo 2 Battle Rifle. I only got queued once for Urban, so can’t comment on how good it is, but I’ve played a lot of Riptide which was a surprisingly good remix of Fathom and lots of fun on Swat. If these remixes are anything to go by, I am willing to withdraw some of my earlier pessimism about 343i’s approach to multiplayer [...]
DEVELOPER: Capcom PUBLISHER: Capcom PLATFORMS: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 PRICE: $19.99 RELEASE DATE: January 19th, 2016
The publisher provided a review code for this review.
The events of Resident Evil Zero take place a mere 24 hours before the infamous Spencer Mansion incident (Resident Evil) and introduce the classic survival formula with a twist. S.T.A.R.S. member, Rebecca Chambers, and her other teammates make an emergency landing in the woods nearby only to discover an overturned military police vehicle. Bodies are strewn about along with evidence indicating that convicted felon, Billy Coen, is lurking around. The group splits up to cover more ground and [...]
If you are a Halo fan, I am sure by now you have heard about the upcoming update for January 2016, Infinity’s Armor. As promised, each month 343 Industries will be releasing a content update to coincide with the next month’s multiplayer season. Last update we got the much-anticipated Forge, new maps for Warzone and some tweaks to the Arena playlists, and in November we saw Halo 5’s take on Big Team Battles. Suffice to say the community divided on how these updates have turned out. Some like the increased complexity and control in Forge, others the move toward a more eSports-friendly and competitive Arena system, yet there are some who question the approach. They claim the [...]
