Meet the Team That’s Making a Difference: Brain Power Wellness Reviews Three Remarkable Field Coordinators

Brain Power Wellness is dedicated to promoting holistic wellness and transforming lives. With a 360-degree approach, the organization shares health, emotional wellness and mindfulness to members of its partner schools as well as its own staff, creating healthy environments that encourage everyone to prioritize wellness on all levels.

Brain Power Wellness’ incredible staff is what distinguishes the program and sets it apart, resulting in a wellness organization that makes a widespread and highly beneficial impact in the lives of our school communities and beyond. This month, in its staff highlights, Brain Power Wellness recognizes and reviews three of its outstanding field coordinators: Cathy Martinez, La-Keeyatta K Steward, and Avery Smith. These individuals are making outstanding contributions in the world of holistic wellness with their hard work and dedication. As with other Brain Power Wellness reviews, feedback regarding these three staff members from school partners has been highly positive.

Cathy Martinez: Senior Field Coordinator and Instructor for Multiple Counties

“My passion is making all the children in the country more mindful, caring, and passionate,” said Cathy Martinez, Senior Field Coordinator, and Instructor at Brain Power Wellness.

In search of a way to manage the stress of caretaking her daughter, who had been diagnosed with cancer, Martinez discovered Brain Power Wellness and found that the organization’s wellness programs provided her whole family with the peace and calm they needed. She has been on the staff for nearly seven years.

Martinez has over twenty-five years of experience working with children, teaching them about leadership, fair play, character, and creativity. She reinforces her passion for Brain Power Wellness by taking seminars about self-care and brain science.

In addition to her work at Brain Power Wellness, Martinez dedicates her time to her family, meditation and nature walks. She also has a passion for the arts, having performed with multiple Off-Broadway theater companies.

La-Keeyatta K. Steward: Field Coordinator for Brooklyn and Queens

“Empowerment and Evolution” – this is what Field Coordinator, La-Keeyatta K. Steward, discovered when she joined the organization’s staff. “Brain Power Wellness has been everything that I wanted in a workspace, and it’s in direct alignment with how I want my personal life to be: grounded in evolving and healing: evolving my consciousness and human consciousness,” she says.

Since joining Brain Power Wellness in February 2020, Steward’s passion for her work has only grown. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Virginia State University and credits her background in mindfulness practices as the key that opened the door to her role as a wellness instructor.

With her vision of helping liberate oppressed people, Steward is dedicated to making a difference in the world. She is excited about the continued expansion of Brain Power Wellness retreats and programs, and is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this life-changing organization.

When she is not working to empower and heal others, Steward loves to travel, read, cycle, and solve 1,000-piece puzzles.

Avery Smith: Field Coordinator for Brooklyn and Queens

“Being part of the Brain Power Wellness team is about showing up not just for others but also for yourself,” says Avery Smith, Field Coordinator for Brooklyn and Queens. “I’ve learned more about what it means to hold space for others and accept where they’re at emotionally and mentally, and in return, I’ve received the same treatment on a regular basis. I’m reminded that it’s okay not to feel okay sometimes, and that there are people who genuinely love and care for me and will be there whenever I need them.”

Smith joined Brain Power Wellness as an instructor in the fall of 2021 and has been serving as a Field Coordinator for Brooklyn and Queens for over a year. After graduating from SUNY Albany and returning to Brooklyn, he discovered the organization’s supportive environment through his roommate. With a passion for learning about and discussing emotional well-being and mental health, Smith jumped at the opportunity to join the Brain Power Wellness team.

In his free time, Smith enjoys meeting new people and connecting with his community, while also pursuing his love for music by honing his DJ skills.
