Witch and The Hundred Knight Revival Review

Game: The Witch and The Hundred Knight Revival Edition Platform: PS4 Developers: Nippon Ichi Software Publishers: NIS America Inc Genre: Action role-playing Price: $39.99

This review was completed with a review copy from the publishers

The Witch and the Hundred Knight is a somewhat shallow attempt to couple the well known “cutesy” Disgaea art style with some darker themes in the pursuit of humor. It’s quite hit and miss, and the overall gameplay while striving for depth, seems just to fall short of its goal. The gameplay is competent enough, and the quality is quite high, but it just makes for one fairly cliche action-role-playing title. It’s a [...]

Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel Review

Game: Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel Developer: Examu Publisher: Marvelous USA Reviewed on: PS4 Price:  $39.99

The publisher provided a copy of this title for this review.

This week we will be taking a look at Nitroplus Blasterz, a fighting game starring the various heroines from the visual novel publisher Nitro Plus’ vast library of titles.

Gameplay here is very typical of the anime sub-section of the genre; players pick from among the game’s 14 playable characters then brawl with a friend or the CPU with over the top attacks, special moves, [...]

Street Fighter V Review

Game: Street Fighter V Developer: Capcom, Dimps Publisher: Capcom Platforms: PC/PlayStation 4 Price: $59.99 Reviewed On: PlayStation 4

A code was provided by the publisher for this review.

There was a dark time in the landscape of fighting games. The genre was stagnant for what felt like ages before Capcom unleashed Street Fighter IV onto the scene. The home console release back in 2009 was equivalent to Third Impact, honestly. It was a mega-ton that bombarded the entire FGC (Fighting Game Community) and got people to pay attention to a genre of games that was, frankly, not great at the time. It is no secret that Street Fighter is the fighting game. Few other names [...]

Mass Effect Andromeda Artist Reveals Pathfinder Model

Yesterday Eurogamer reported that Bioware senior character artist Furio Tedeschi posted a picture of the new armour for Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s lead character the Pathfinder. The high-resolution image shows the male character model, including the iconic N7 logos and a very Mass Effect-esque silhouette. The post on Zbrush Central read “our Pathfinder character model at Bioware Montreal…. for Mass Effect Andromeda – Modeled By Herbert Lowis [another Bioware artist]” It is an absolute treat for Mass Effect fans, who have been starved for details until now.

Anyway, the images below are from his forum post. However, you can see more of the model, [...]

Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster Review

DEVELOPER: Capcom PUBLISHER: Capcom PLATFORMS: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 PRICE: $19.99 RELEASE DATE: January 19th, 2016

The publisher provided a review code for this review.

The events of Resident Evil Zero take place a mere 24 hours before the infamous Spencer Mansion incident (Resident Evil) and introduce the classic survival formula with a twist. S.T.A.R.S. member, Rebecca Chambers, and her other teammates make an emergency landing in the woods nearby only to discover an overturned military police vehicle. Bodies are strewn about along with evidence indicating that convicted felon, Billy Coen, is lurking around. The group splits up to cover more ground and [...]

Tom Clancy’s The Division Beta Comes Out This Week

The beta for Tom Clancy’s The Division will open for Xbox One on Thursday 28th at 9 am GMT / 4 am EST / 1 am PST, followed by PS4 and PC on Friday 29th at noon GMT / 7 am EST / 4 am PST. To play, you will need to have pre-ordered a copy of the game for your system of choice. There is, however, a way to beat the pre-order restriction. According to reporting by Eurogamer PS4 players can cancel their pre-order but retain access to the beta. I do not advocate for this shady sort of behaviour, but if it’s your thing, it’s technically possible. If you plan on checking it out, you should make sure to get some time off work, as it’s only available over the [...]

Barak Bullock’s Game of the Year 2015

My choice for GOTY 2015 is not based on an informed sampling of the best this year had to offer. Because I delayed joining the next-gen world for close to two years, I didn’t get to play many of this year’s star-studded releases, including The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V or Batman: Arkham Knight. Like a scrappy wasteland survivor, I made do with my old Xbox 360 and its packed back-catalog that’s getting cheaper all the time. But right after Thanksgiving, I finally pulled the trigger on a next-gen console and have been enjoying it quite thoroughly. That enjoyment is (mostly) thanks to one game – the only game released in 2015 I can honestly say I’ve played. [...]

Zachary Mathiot’s Game Of The Year 2015

There have been many games that I loved this year, but Bloodborne for the PS4 cinches the tops spot for my game of the year. From the immense difficulty to the rewarding and fast-paced gameplay to the horrifying enemy and level design. Add to this co-op play and the recently released DLC The Old Hunters and you have fun and invigorating new experience that definitely lives up to its Dark Souls brethren and makes it my favorite PS4 game this year.

My first runner-up for game of the year is Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. I’d lost faith in the franchise after it started coming out yearly, but this one actually broke the mold in many ways. The ability to play [...]

Psychonauts 2 Coming Soon Thanks to Crowdfunding Campaign

Developer Double Fine Productions and Tim Shafer recently launched a fundraising campaign to help produce a long-awaited sequel to one of their most inventive and charming titles Psychonauts. The campaign is being hosted on Fig.com, and anyone can contribute.

This is huge news for fans of the series as the first title came out in 2005 for PS2 and the original Xbox. It’s a popular title filled to the brim with Tim Schafer’s top-notch storytelling and charming design choices. Most of the levels in the game took place inside the minds of different characters making it unique from other platformers on the market.

The first game totaled 1,697,073$ in worldwide sales [...]

Bloodborne: The Old Hunters Review

Game: Bloodborne: The Old Hunters Developer: FROM Software Publisher: Sony Platform: PS4 Price: $19.99

The copy of The Old Hunters used for this review was personally bought by the writer, at their country’s asking price of $29.99.

The Old Hunters is finally here. Yes, the much awaited downloadable expansion for  Bloodborne has landed, and we at the Nation want to give you the rundown. Does it live up to the quality of the previous content? Does it fill in some of the missing pieces in Bloodborne’s story? Does it answer questions or just raise more of them? Is it worth the $20 asking price? The answer is yes, and no, depending on what the player is looking [...]
