Mario Kart 8 Wins First Place

The perfect rocket start shot Mario Kart 8 into a good position upon its release at the end of May. Being the competitor it is, it wasn’t content with simply coasting along. It wanted to win first place..and so it did! The game sold more than 470,000 physical and digital units in June alone, taking its current total so far to more than 885,000 in the U.S. alone. “These results reinforce the power of the Mario Kart franchise and speak to a bright future for the Wii U platform,” Said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing.

The Wii U isn’t the only platform celebrating success; the 3DS had a very strong showing in June as well. Tomodachi Life sold over 175,000 physical and digital units after its June 6th release, and hardware sales increased from May sales by over 55 percent.

Mario Kart 8 is just another example of one of the Wii U’s strong titles in Nintendo’s growing library. There are still many eagerly anticipated games awaiting release in the second half of 2014. Hyrule Warriors (September), Bayonetta 2 (October), and Super Smash Bros. (Holiday) for the Wii U are a few titles to look forward to, complimented by the 3DS releases of Super Smash Bros. (October),  Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire (Nov. 21).

My name is Felicia but many just call me Lixx or Scilixx. I’ve been a gamer since I could sit up and play Asteroids on Atari. I became hooked immediately and have had a longterm love affair with video games. Of course, Atari wasn’t enough for me. I branched out into every generation after that. I still own them all, over 20 different working consoles. To quote Gollum, they are “my precious.” But I will admit, lately I have become a very healthy member of the PC Master Race. Do not despair, I’m not really much of a fan-girl to anything in particular. I like anything that gives me enjoyment. Whether its on a PC, console, handheld or even phone, I don’t care. I will play it. Currently some of my favorite games include Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate & Fire Emblem (3DS), Soul Sacrifice & Toukiden (PS Vita), Diablo 3 & Borderlands 2 (PC). And yes, I generally will play multiple games throughout the day. If I go without gaming for a day, stay out of my way, I will not be in a very jolly mood. Outside of gaming, I enjoy a good fantasy novel, violent tv shows (Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire), and folding origami. :3

Have your say!
