EA and BioWare Shed Light on Shadow Realms

Shadow Realms

Today in Austin Texas BioWare™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (EA), announced a new online action Role Playing Game (RPG) titled Shadow Realms™.  According to EA, this new title takes place in a world crafted by Bioware and promises to return players to the roots of classic pen and paper RPGs.

In Shadow Realms, players will choose to become part of a co-op group of four heroes, or to play as the evil Shadowlord.  This is a significant dynamic which will allow every battle in the game to be unique.  The game will follow the traditional RPG model, meaning as the game progresses all players will gain experience and advance whether they have chosen to play a Hero or the Shadowlord.

An exciting element of the game is that the storyline will play out like a good TV show or series of books, with elements of the plot being released episodically over time.  This will allow players to experience the story and adventure together as a community.

Jeff Hickman, General Manager and Vice President at BioWare Austin sums up the new game quite nicely:  “Shadow Realms is a new BioWare RPG that has the hallmarks of all BioWare games with a rich story, a unique world setting and deep combat progression, but built as an interactive experience that evolves the genre and broadens the appeal to online gamers all over the world.”

Shadow Realms takes place on a fantasy modern earth where heroes are being recruited to use powers they have yet to discover, to fight a dangerous war against the Shadow Legions of Embra.  Up until the game begins, the Shadow Legions have been involved with a war on the planet of Embra against the Radiant Empires for quite some time.  When, somehow, the Shadow Legions gain a mysterious power that they call Shadowlords.  Along with, or perhaps as a result of, this new power the Shadowlords devise a plan to leave Embra and invade Earth.

The game promises customization options for characters whether players choose to become an Earthling Hero, or a Shadowlord from Embra. Players will have the option to create both characters if they would like to fully explore the world of Shadow Realms.

Shadow Realms will be available for PC via Origin™, if you cannot wait for the full release to be a part of the action, you can sign-up for a chance to participate in the closed Alpha release on the Shadow Realms website.  The game has not yet been rated.

Mary-Ellen Tolliver
Hello Nation! My Name is Mary-Ellen Tolliver; I am 26 years old and live in the great state of Texas. I have always enjoyed games, especially card games and board games. As a kid I did not have video games but I always enjoyed Oregon Trail and Chips Challenge (props to you if you know Chips Challenge!). Now that I am a “grown-up” I am slowly discovering the vast world of digital games and gaming. I have become especially fond of indie games and games with amazing soundtracks. When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend, exercising, learning new things, reading, and trying to figure out what amazing paths the future holds. I am looking forward to bringing a novice viewpoint to the APG Nation and learning more about games and gaming.

Have your say!
