Take a Look at Hollow Knight by Team Cherry

Hollow Knight is set to be the debut game by Team Cherry, a 3 man development team based in south Australia. While it might be their first game one can tell from the quality of the visuals and animations that it may very well be the next big indie success, on the same scale as Bastion or FTL. That said it isn’t just visuals that make a game but coming out of the gate with a unique visual aesthetic will give them a leg up over other indie titles.

Hollow Knight is a 2D action adventure game, in a similar vein of Metroid and Cave Story. The title’s narrative seems to be quite focused and taut while encouraging players to really explore every nuance. The trailers indicate this a world with many secrets for players to uncover as they navigate the dangerous and mysterious world that Team Cherry has crafted.

Team Cherry has had a successful Kickstarter Campaign for Hollow Knight, raising well past their initial goal of 35,000 AUD (about 28,500 USD). They hit three previous stretch goals including a Wii U release. Hollow Knight also already been through the Steam Greenlight process and been approved for a Steam release. I encourage you to take a look at their Greenlight page for more videos, even though they’ve already been green lit.

From the Hollow Knight Greenlight page:

Hollow Knight is a challenging, beautiful action adventure game set in the vast, inter-connected underground kingdom of Hallownest. A 2D action game with an emphasis on skill and exploration, Hollow Knight has you fighting a fearsome host of deadly creatures, avoiding intricate traps and solving ancient mysteries as you make your own way through fungal wastes, forests of bone, and ruined underground cities.

The atmosphere is eerie and sometimes unnerving, but there is a good-hearted core of humour and levity in there too, especially when conversing with all of the weird and wonderful NPCs you’ll find along the way. Hollow Knight has beautiful traditional art, fluid and responsive action, challenging but fair gameplay, and an incredible, bizarre insect world begging to be explored and conquered. Step into the depths of Hallownest and experience Hollow Knight for yourself!
