Ultimate Gaming Championship League and its sponsors are hosting a sanctioned Halo Championship Series Diamond tournament featuring the remastered Halo 2 Anniversary for the Xbox One. The tournament is taking place January 2-4 in St. Louis, Missouri with over 70 teams battling on various maps and game types for a chance at a prize pool over $20,000 and a chance at 4,000 HCS points — the largest amount offered to first place winners. The first day of the event opened with Free-play in the afternoon followed by a Free-for-all — the announced winner is previous Halo 4 Global Championship finalist ContrA. The main 4v4 tournament starts January 3, with matches leading up to Grand Finals by day’s end on January 4.
To entertain streaming and live fans, UGC has invited notable event casters for their tournament, including 343 Industries Community Manager Andy “Bravo” Dudynsky, pro-casters Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez and Clint “Maven” Evans, and professional Halo player Walshy who will cast the tournaments live on UGC’s Twitch channel. The tournament will showcase some of the most notable teams including Str8 Rippin, VwS Gaming, Evil Geniuses, CLS eSports, OpTic Gaming, and Counter Logic Gaming. Earlier this year, Iron Gaming held the first sanctioned tournament in Columbus, Ohio where CLG beat out Evil Geniuses in a five-game series at 3-2, followed by teams OpTic Gaming and Cloud9. Will CLG’s past win bolster their chances for this tournament? Will EG wise up with some slick plays of their own? Or will another talented team break through and take home first prize? With so much talent competing at UGC, this tournament is shaping up to be one of the best in recent years. Keep checking back here or on APGNation’s Twitter for more eSports News.
