If you’ve been living under a rock for a while now you might not be aware of what will, without a doubt, be one of the biggest releases of 2015. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt promises to be epic in scale, hoping to deliver on the promise of a truly open fantasy world that is grounded in realism. CD Projekt RED has a proven track record of doing just that with the prior entries in the franchise (based on the immensely popular Polish fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski). The prior games have been known for their immense open landscapes, mature themes and stellar gameplay. This latest gameplay trailer showcases just how much there is to in the world of Witcher 3 along with summarizing, quite well, what the game is all about.
A disclaimer before watching this trailer. If you’re at work or a younger viewer you might want to think twice as this video features some salty language, debauchery and a lot of violence packed in here. Viewer discretion is advised.
The Rockstar style of narration while showcasing the “goods”, so to speak, works quite well for this snippet of footage. The emphasis on player choice, the sheer size of the world in which our hero, Geralt of Rivia, roams and the breadth of things to kill alone speaks volumes. We can’t forget the ludicrous amount of other things that one can partake in. Feel like getting sauced? Go for it. Want to indulge your inner desires and run the maiden gauntlet? Go nuts! That fellow in the bar get a bit too mouthy? Cut out his tongue. Or would you rather avoid a conflict altogether and just buy a round for the whole bar? All up to you, my friend.
The themes dealt with here are heavy, mired in gray areas that require the player to truly decide just what sort of person they deem themselves to be. This is old hat for those who have been with the series from day one but hopefully this trailer will convince newer players to jump aboard. This, much like the prior sequel, doesn’t require the player to have even played what the two other games before it to get a handle on things. We are just about a month away from release at this point and everyone here at APG is buzzing about the possibilities of CD Projekt RED’s latest. If you weren’t already sold on this game prior are you on board the hype train now, Nation? Let us know in the comments below or hit us back via Twitter, @APGNation.
