UPDATED [NSFW] Kill The Fa**ot Removed from Steam

Update: The developers have since released a statement giving their reasons for the Greenlight attempt. It appears it was a sort of social experiment to gauge people’s reactions. They’re not apologetic and claim their next game will be far more offensive.

A game that has recently been gaining some fire was removed from Steam Greenlight. Sporting a rather strong title and gameplay that seemed to bother some people, “Kill the Fa**ot” is no longer available on Steam Greenlight. For the uninitiated, Steam Greenlight is a system where game developers submit their titles and a pitch to users of Steam. Users then vote whether they would like the game to become a regular product on Steam—often for sale.

One such developer going by the name of Skaldic Games put up a mini game to be greenlighted, by the name of Kill The Fa**ot. Kill the Fa**ot seems to part of a much larger game called The Shelter: Survival Story—at least that’s what the opening screen of it claims. The company website does contain other previous titles that have been finished, called Zilim: A Game of Reflex and On The Lam: A Fugitive Simulator. Kill The Fa**ot seems to have been developed by Randall Herman.

The Shelter: Survival Story is described as being about a survivor struggling in a current apocalypse. The survivor must make alliances while searching for supplies to survive. The Shelter: Survival Story claims to take a stand against the rules of the current traditional game development cycle, as well as the industry itself. It says it will be available for a 2015 release.

The mini-game itself contains the bare minimum of gameplay, taking on an arcade shooter style. The player must kill what appear to be homosexuals running across the screen. Transgender people are also included under this umbrella, providing bonus points. The player is penalized for shooting straight people, and it seems the only indication is how they’re dressed as to differentiate them all.

When the player hits a homosexual, an announcer yells all sorts of insults at the person who’s been killed. The Greenlight page has since been removed but an archived version of the page has been saved for prosperity that shows people’s negative opinions towards the mini-game—their reactions being the likely reason the game was removed from Steam Greenlight, as well as the game violating Steam’s Greenlight terms.
