DOTA 2 The International Prize Pool Breaks 12 Million Dollars. Largest eSports Prize Pool Ever

Yesterday, the crowdfunded prizepool for The International 2015, the massive yearly tournament for Dota 2, breached the 12 million dollars mark. This milestone not only decimates the previous year’s prize pool of  10.9 million dollars  but sets the record for the largest prize pool in any single eSports tournament in history. With nearly two full months of continued crowdfunding before the main event it’s anyone’s guess as to what the final prize pool will be.

The prize pool for The International is driven by players purchasing cosmetics, treasures, and purchasing a compendium, a digital book that provides cosmetic bonuses. 25% of all purchases towards The International themed cosmetics, chests, and bonuses are put towards the prize pool. This recent jump in prize pool is due to the release of a new treasure, only available to users who have already purchased a compendium.

As of now, only two slots remain for those competing for a chunk of this massive prize pool. With the release of the final immortal-level rarity chest yet to be released and the final stretch goal within reach at 15 Million dollars, it’s anyone’s guess as to what the final count will be.
