This week on Gaming on a Budget, there’s a quite a few sales going on, with GOG and PSN there’s plenty to go around.

First up on GoG.com we have one of the best Diablo II clones of all time, developed by some of the Diablo II devs! Torchlight is sadly single player only, however it managed to capture the same feeling as the Diablo series. With graphics slightly less gory than the aforementioned titles, Torchlight took it back old school. You’ll feel like you’re plundering the depths of Tristram once again as you dig deeper, unlocking secrets, new weapons and of course utilising town portals. Who could forget TP’s? I dare you not to be filled with nostalgia as you hack and slash your way to the bottom of the dungeon. Torchlight is currently only $2.99 on GoG.com. Grab it while you can. The sale expires June 21.

K&L

This next game had all sorts of controversy surrounding it. Unfortunate really as it had a lot of things going for it. Sure, it had the occasional bug, but the story for Kane and Lynch: Dead Men was solid. Kane is an ex-criminal and his colleague Lynch is a total psychopath. Lynch is okay as long as he’s on his meds, which is rare. With a somewhat lacking cover system, Kane and Lynch: Dead Men told the story of two men on death row. In a previous life they betrayed some powerful people, stealing loads of money from them in the process. Kane, having made good and started a family,  now has to atone for his betrayal, as the men he stole from now have his daughter. Dead Men features some stellar voice acting and a rather unique story. It was a decent game, folks! The multiplayer was also incredibly fun to back-stab teammates with and take all the cash. Truly just a fun title. It’s available on PSN now for just $3.99. The PSN sale lasts until next Monday, so get in quick. There are some other great titles included.

Soul Reave

This brings us to a personal favorite of mine. Somewhat a sequel to Blood Omen, but also an origin story unto itself, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver tells the story of Raziel. Raziel is one of Kain’s generals. He is young and making a name for himself rapidly. Unfortunately, Raziel had the audacity to evolve faster than Kain, and is thrown into the Wheel of Fate, home to the Elder God. The water burns Raziel’s flesh like hellfire, stripping him away to a mere shell of his former self. He takes on the mission as the Elder God’s Soul Reaver. Raziel is charged with destroying his former brethren that have become a plague on the land of Nosgoth, in order to restore balance to the pillars and their souls to the Wheel of Fate. Supported by the amazing voice talents of the late Tony Jay, Michael Bell and, of course, the always wonderful Simon Templeman as Kain, you can not go wrong. Easily one of the best vampire series ever. Go grab Soul Reaver on PSN now for only $2.49, you won’t regret it.

Tomb Raider Under

Set after the events of Tomb Raider: Legend, Underworld continues the story of Lara searching for her mother. Her search leads her in the direction of Avalon, a fabled lost island that harkens back to the time of King Arthur. The mansion is destroyed and she is left with nothing but the desire for revenge. Filled with all sorts of clever puzzles, Underworld was terrifying for some like myself. Something about what lurks within deep waters in games just makes my skin crawl. I’ve never been a fan of water levels, and thankfully Underworld wasn’t just one great big water level. It’s filled with shooting and puzzling gameplay that we’ve all grown to know and love, and if you can get past the fear of being eaten by sharks or god knows what else, it’s a solid little title. That part where you must move the statues swords while surrounded by many sharks swimming nearby still freaks me out! Go grab it. It’s only $4.99 from PSN until  next Monday!

That’s it for this week. If you’ve not played Soul Reaver, you must. One of the best vampire series ever! If you, like myself are afraid of water levels, I’d advise you to give Tomb Raider: Underworld a try. There’s only one or two freaky moments and if anything it helped me get over my fear slightly. Thanks for reading, keep up to date with next week by following us on @APGNation.

NOTE to all our EU PSN users! A whole slew of deals is cropping up in a PSN as yesterday in celebration of the fifth anniversary of Playstation Plus. Games include the likes of Mortal Kombat XFar Cry 4, The Last of Us Remastered and more. -Editor’s Note

Tabitha Dickerson

Welcome to the sovereignty of our nation. I am Tabitha Dickerson. I am currently 26 years old
First introduced to the world of “vidya” at the ripe old age of four—my first console was a Sega MegaDrive (Genesis).

The only game I had for a number of years was Sonic 2. Upon becoming extremely proficient at that, I moved onto games like Spiderman/Venom Separation Anxiety, Maximum carnage, Toy Story and many more. My next console was a Playstation where I developed my love for all things Sony, increasingly becoming obsessed with anything JRPG related.

I studied photography and the entertainment industry after completing my HSC. I have joined The Nation with a view to providing the best possible objective news coverage and accurate reviews possible. I also write for Highland Arrow from time to time as well as covering and reviewing naughty things for LewdGamer.

Hopefully I can help grow the Nation as well as acquire further experience, waffling on about an industry and a media that I absolutely adore. Currently own every major console.

Have your say!
