E3 2015: Backwards Compatibility for Xbox One

Backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 titles will now be possible the Xbox One.

Microsoft has made this declaration earlier today at their E3 press conference. This will be part of an upcoming update to the Xbox One’s system that will be free of charge. The update will allow for retail discs for the Xbox 360 to be played on the Xbox One with no loss of quality and even possibly a slight improvement in quality given the Xbox One’s improved power over the Xbox 360.

In addition, Microsoft has announced that it will be releasing 100 titles from the Xbox 360’s lineup on Xbox Live with more being planned. These releases will be coming in the latter half of 2015 in time for the holidays.

It is unknown what titles will be part of the 100 titles that will be released on Xbox Live in time for the holiday season. However, it is expected that some of the latest Halo games will be part of this first wave due to their usage in the conference. More information will be provided as announcements on the lineup are made in the near future.
