E3 2015: Bowser and Donkey Kong To Guest Star In Skylanders Supercharged

Today Nintendo announced both via press release and their digital E3 conference that iconic Mario characters Bowser and Donkey Kong would be joining the cast of Skylanders Supercharged for the Wii U. Both characters, here titled as “Super Charged Donkey Kong” and “Hammer Slam Bowser,” will be available only via exclusive figures included with the Skylanders Supercharged starter pack.

“Activision Blizzard has always cherished our collaboration with Nintendo, and we are grateful for decades of partnership,” said Bobby Kotick, Chief Executive Officer of Activision Blizzard. “Since we made the first toys-to-life game, some of our most dedicated players have been Nintendo fans around the world. Skylanders is delighted to welcome beloved guest stars Donkey Kong and Bowser into its magical world.”

Both characters will come with a vehicle styled after their unique personality, and will also display powers that pay homage to Mario’s lengthy history. For example, Bowser will be able to breath fire and transform into the never before seen “Magma Bowser” after fulfilling certain conditions. While Donkey Kong will throw barrels and bang loudly on bongo drums to defeat his foes.

“Activision’s Skylanders games have been very popular on Nintendo platforms, and we hope this collaboration will delight fans of the franchise,” said Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo Co., Ltd. “We believe this unique approach will help expand the entire category and make it appealing to even more players.”

Skylanders Supercharged is the latest game in long running toy-based action series, and will introduce, for the first time, vehicles to the experience as well, allowing characters to partake in exciting races as they combat the forces of the evil Kaos.

My name is Nicole Seraphita and I’m 27. I’ve been gaming since the days of the NES and have owned at least one system from each generation since then. My favorite type of games if most definitely RPGs, with my favorites being titles like Chrono Cross, Persona 4, and Tales of Xillia, though I also sometimes dabble in platforming games, fighting games, and visual novels. When I’m not writing for APGNation or playing games, I enjoy table top and card games, watch anime, and write fiction that I occasionally publish online. I tend to write a lot of Sci-fi and the occasional bit of fantasy, with the often overlooked sub-genre of Biopunk being my favorite. I’ve also written a few visual novels, though only one of them has made it all the way to completion thus far. My current dream is to be able to bring the Monster Girl genre to a western audience.

Have your say!
