July 4th-themed DLC Being Released by Nintendo

by Thomas HughesJune 27, 2015

Nintendo is chiming in on the Independence Day festivities this year, reminding us of their American-themed Mario costume for owners of Super Smash Brothers. Players will have the chance to play as “Uncle Sam Mario” — those with a keen eye will recognize the costume from Open Tournament Golf on the NES.

This  content has been  available on both the Wii U and the New Nintendo 3DS XL for some time,  But Nintendo are appearing to remind players that they have the option to choose this skin.

The holiday-themed Splatfest is also going to be making its way to Splatoon on the 4th of July at midnight (PST). Players will have the ability to pick a side and fight for 24 hours, competing in turf wars and painting everyone and everything they can.  Splatfest will also feature fireworks to celebrate Independence Day.

In addition to these bits of content, Nintendo is also releasing several new games for its portable consoles, so gamers can keep playing while on the go during the 4th. The new games include Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition, Stretchmo, and the brilliantly timed Code Name: S.T.E.A.M

Code Name: S.T.E.A.M sees Abe Lincoln and a cast of fictional characters  defend the earth from a swarm of aliens through turn-based combat. Is there anything more American than saving America from aliens on the weekend of celebrating Independence ?
