You Can Play The Witcher 2 On Your Xbox One, and it’s Free Now

2015’s Game of the Year, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt took the world by storm, garnering praise for its beautiful aesthetics, engrossing story, and brilliant gameplay. Its predecessor,  CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings is now available for Xbox One through the Backward Compatibility feature. Additionally, it’s free until February 5th; you can grab a copy here (It was announced that Xbox owners in France, Germany, Canada, the US and the UK receive the free download).

A genre-pioneer, this non-linear adventure follows Geralt as he attempts to unravel a conspiracy by a group of fellow Witchers to assassinate the monarchs of the Northern Kingdoms. Offering the trademark Witcher combat, and a compelling choice driven story, this is a must play for Witcher fans who joined the series on this generation of consoles.

Microsoft has also announced the rest of February’s additions to the Backward Compatibility roster, including Sam & Max Save the World, Aegis Wing, Counter-Strike: GO, Age of Booty, Space Giraffe, Soulcalibur, Skullgirls, Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad, and  Small Arms. It’s exciting to see more and more great games from last-gen returning. If you are an Xbox Live Gold customer, don’t forget to grab January’s Games with Gold free titles; Killer Instinct, Zheros, and Deus Ex Human Revolution.

From Antigua & Barbuda (a tiny country in the Caribbean), but live in Scotland. I'm in my third year doing Politics and International Relations at the University of Aberdeen. I blog pretty frequently and grumble about politics, games, and Gamergate.I'm a massive nerd. Games have been a huge part of my life since I first got my hands on a GameBoy and a copy of Pokemon. I mainly play commercial FPSs, RPGs, and RTSs on PC/Xbox One. You will also be happy to know that I am on the mend from an especially crippling World of Warcraft addiction, 6 months with my nose clean. As well as gaming, I’m an ASOIAF super fan, completely obsessed with Warhammer 40k, Warcraft, and Halo lore. I'm also writing a novella.
