The History of eSports

As a huge fan of  eSports anything that teaches me more about the world of competitive gaming is pretty awesome in my book, and our friends at Right Casino have created an excellent visual history of eSports. Going all the way back to 1972 (yes, that is significantly earlier than the day I was born) the graphic shows the growth in the scene from tiny tournaments to one of the fastest growing forms of entertainment on the planet. If you want to look like you’re a huge eSports history know-it-all to your friends or are just curious how eSports has grown and where it came from then this is a perfect graphic for you.

From Space Invaders to League of Legends, the history of eSports has been long and winding but the scene has finally found recognition and a place within mainstream culture. While this is a history of eSports the graphic also casts an eye into the future to look at where eSports may be soon, including a potential Olympic like tournament and a multi-billion dollar industry. Make sure to check out the full graphic below.

Hey there guys! I’m Phil and I’m a 19 year old from the lovely UK. I’ve always loved video games and can remember the first time I played Age of Empires on my mum’s laptop. This passion for gaming grew as I grew and went into overdrive when I found myself with money I could spend and my own computer and consoles. While you’ll mostly find me on the PC, either being shouted at in online games or shouting at the screen on Steam, I also have a soft spot for my Xbox One. My favorite games of all time include Crusaders Kings 2 and Thomas Was Alone. When you can find me away from gaming it was almost certainly not by choice. I’m currently still a student International Relations and Political Science. While away from keyboard I also enjoy playing football (or soccer if you prefer) and recording a podcast with some of my friends who should know better.I love keeping up to date with all the latest gaming news and I hope I can help you to do the same.I’ll see you out there!

Have your say!
