Halo 5 Guardians Forge coming to Windows 10

Forge, on the PC?

In 2007, Bungie revolutionised the Halo franchise with its addition of the original Forge feature to Halo 3. An instant fan favourite, Forge allowed players to modify or build maps for multiplayer games, unleashing the creative power of a millions-strong fan base. However, earlier today 343 Industries seems to be throwing us Halo fans another curve-ball by allowing players to develop Forge maps for Halo 5 Guardians on the PC through Microsoft Windows 10.

What to expect?

The first thing to note is that Halo 5 Guardians is still a Xbox One exclusive title. Secondly, the app will be free, and available only to Windows 10 users. Marketed as Forge – Halo [...]

Dawn of War 3 Confirmed by SEGA/Relic Entertainment

In Dawn of War III you will have no choice but to face your foes when a catastrophic weapon is found on the mysterious world of Acheron.

With war raging and the planet under siege by the armies of greedy Ork warlord Gorgutz, ambitious Eldar seer Macha, and mighty Space Marine commander Gabriel Angelos, supremacy must ultimately be suspended for survival.

So read the blurb for Relic Entertainment’s triumphant return to its treasured Dawn of War franchise.

Three-Faction Campaign

Following yesterday’s teaser video, Relic released a longer cinematic trailer showcasing the return of the Eldar, Blood [...]

Is SEGA Teasing Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 3?

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is one of the most highly regarded real-time strategy titles in PC gaming, spanning two games with multiple expansions, the franchise is a treasure. However, since Relic Entertainment, the developers of Dawn of War, were sold to SEGA following the THQ bankruptcy, fans have worried that we may never see a return to the franchise.

This fear was somewhat averted by SEGA registering a domain for Dawn of War 3, and releasing new content for Dawn of War II: Retribution in the form of the Necron Overlord for the Last Stand game mode. However, today suspicions of a franchise revival are sure to return. On its official Twitter account and on the [...]

Mass Effect Andromeda Artist Reveals Pathfinder Model

Yesterday Eurogamer reported that Bioware senior character artist Furio Tedeschi posted a picture of the new armour for Mass Effect: Andromeda‘s lead character the Pathfinder. The high-resolution image shows the male character model, including the iconic N7 logos and a very Mass Effect-esque silhouette. The post on Zbrush Central read “our Pathfinder character model at Bioware Montreal…. for Mass Effect Andromeda – Modeled By Herbert Lowis [another Bioware artist]” It is an absolute treat for Mass Effect fans, who have been starved for details until now.

Anyway, the images below are from his forum post. However, you can see more of the model, [...]

343 Industries Tease Firefight for Halo 5: Guardians

Firefight Returns

In a preview for their Free Spring/Summer 200116 Content, 343 Industries the developers of Halo 5: Guardians teased the return of fan favourite Firefight. Firefight, first introduced in Halo 3: ODST was a PvE wave based co-operative game type. 343i promise that Guardians’ incarnation, dubbed ‘Warzone Firefight’, “will bring PvE to Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer”, and that they will keep us up-to-date over the coming months. The new name may indicate some connection with the current Warzone game types, possibly by using the same maps or borrowing elements of the formula. Whatever the case it is exciting news for those hankering for some more PvE.

Exciting Future [...]

Halo: The Fall of Reach Is Coming To Netflix

Hidden among the announcements of new shows and films coming to Netflix in March was the animated series, Hal0: The Fall of Reach. Previously only available in the Limited and Collector’s Editions of Halo 5: Guardians, the game was met with mixed reception. Accordingly, many fans were put off by the style and voice acting, as well as the overall production value of the mini-series.

All that said, it is nice to see them following up on Halo: Forward Unto Dawn which was also released on Netflix. The Fall of Reach, which is based on the novel of the same name, explores the origins of the Spartan Two program, Master Chief’s blue team, and the iconic MJOLNIR armour. [...]

Adam Baldwin Leaves Twitter Over Censorship Concerns

According to reports by Independent Journal Review (IJR), conservative actor Adam Baldwin has quit Twitter and doesn’t plan on returning. “Twitter is dead to me,” Baldwin told IJR yesterday. Famous for his role in Firefly and as the originator of #GamerGate, his departure comes as a response to Twitter’s ‘censorship’ of conservative voices. Baldwin told IJR that Twitter’s new policy of punishing accounts that it finds “offensive” is what drove him from the social network:

It’s really a shame that so-called ‘liberal thinkers’ and the so called ‘tolerant crowd’ is intolerant of varying viewpoints. They’re so afraid to hear people disagree with them. Instead of ignoring it or [...]

Let’s Talk Xbox: Halo’s Griffball Returns, Quantum Break & more

In last week’s Let’s Talk Xbox I covered the start of the February 2016 Season for Halo 5: Guardians Arena, the matchmaking improvements it brought and the new Arena REQ Bundle. Over the weekend, 343 Industries published the preview for their February update, Hammer Storm, on Halo Waypoint. The update will include a new Arena map, two armour sets, the return of Griffball, and updates to armour and emblem personalisation.

I am happy to see the return of fan favourite game type Griffball, and the addition of Assault, Fiesta and custom game types such as Oddball and Ricochet will add some much-needed depth to the multiplayer experience. That said, I want some [...]

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is being ‘remade’ in Unreal 4

A group of programmers called Poem Studios is remaking the classic 2003 RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic using the Unreal 4 engine. In conjunction with enthusiasts of the game, the team hope to remake and remaster the game, while adding content such as new missions, planets and more. Poem argues that the game is legal due to the precedent set by games like Black Mesa and the remake of Command and Conquer by Renegade X using Unreal 3. So far they have not run into problems with EA and Disney, the respective parent companies of Lucas Arts and Bioware, so maybe they are right. Either way, the group are not accepting donations at this time, and stress that all you will need to [...]

Homefront: The Revolution ‘Closed Beta’ First Impressions

There is one word that describes Homefront: The Revolution’s beta perfectly, janky. The graphics harken back to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the framerate is jerky at the best of times, and the collision detection is just pathetic. To put it bluntly, this game in its current state would have only just passed as triple-A on last-gen consoles. Now, you may say “beta is beta”, but frankly, even for a ‘closed’ beta this lacks polish. It is rough, and that makes it hard to play.

However, that does not mean it is not fun. The game has some interesting ideas and mechanics. I like the squad based interactions, the stealth aspects, the hacking enemy vehicles, and I even like the [...]
