Game: Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel Developer: Examu Publisher: Marvelous USA Reviewed on: PS4 Price:  $39.99

The publisher provided a copy of this title for this review.

This week we will be taking a look at Nitroplus Blasterz, a fighting game starring the various heroines from the visual novel publisher Nitro Plus’ vast library of titles.

Gameplay here is very typical of the anime sub-section of the genre; players pick from among the game’s 14 playable characters then brawl with a friend or the CPU with over the top attacks, special moves, [...]

Strawberry Vinegar Review

Title: Strawberry Vinegar Developer: ebi-hime Publisher: Sekai Project Played on: PC Price: $9.99

A review copy of this game was provided by the publisher for this review.

Visual novels are unique among video games, if one wishes to consider them such at all, in that without gameplay, they must rely on their story, music, and art to captivate the player and immerse themselves in the story’s world. This, in particular, is what Strawberry Vinegar fails to do even from the outset.

Regarding narrative, Strawberry Vinegar spins a tale that anime and manga fans have heard many many times before. Our heroine, a girl, named Chiri, suddenly finds a cute [...]

Indie RTS Flintlock’s Lithic Postponed

Some of you might remember APG’s coverage of the indie stone-age RTS Lithic from last year, which makes the following news all the sadder for all of us here at the site. While Lithic was a promising game with an intriguing premise, and even managed to gain Green Light Status on Steam. Its complex nature and scope seemed to outstrip its creator’s ability to deliver, resulting in today’s announcement by Flintlock Games that Lithic will be postponed until further notice while their team focuses on smaller projects.

“It’s unfortunate that it has come to this,” said Lead Developer Tom. “Lithic has progressed well but as developers, we are not happy with [...]

Nicole Seraphita’s Games of the Year 2015

2015 was a hell of a year for gaming, with AAA and indie games alike producing some of the finest titles we’ve seen in years. But honestly, I haven’t played most of the games that will likely appear on my fellow journalists Games of the Year lists. So what did I play? A whole bunch of JRPGs, doujin games, and other small scale stuff, my favorite of which you can read about below.

(In no particular order.)

1. Undertale (PC)

Few games this year have garnered as much praise as this little homage to quirky JRPGs of years past, and with good reason as well. As Undertale is a game that simply sucks in players with its mix of quirky humor, strange [...]

We Need Neptunia! And I’ll Tell You Why!

I’ll get this out of the way right now; I adore the Neptunia series. I’ve played every main series title, all three of the Re;Birth remake for the PS Vita, Hyper Devotion Noir, and have watched the 2013 anime -even if it wasn’t all that great- But why, you might be asking yourself?

The answer is simple; despite its many flaws, the reused enemies, textures, dungeons, and bosses, and even in the face of a difficulty curve best resembles a sidewinding snake, there is just something about the Neptunia universe that I find utterly appealing despite how much of a mess it is. Its characters are lovable, the art is nice, and I even laugh at all of the dumb anime and [...]
