It was announced earlier this week, that Ryukishi07’s new solo project Iwahime will launch in Japan on November 27th. The visual novel — which Ryukishi07 first teased at Anime Central in May — will be available in both physical and downloadable forms through publisher DMM Games. The title was previously stated to be released only via digital download when it was first announced at the end of June.
A horror novel, Iwaihime tells the story of a young boy who transfers to a new school only to meet a mysterious young girl with features like those of a traditional Japanese doll. Iwahime will feature the character art of Kina Kazuharu, and will be written in its [...]
At Anime Expo in Los Angeles this past weekend, Mangagamer announced that they would be bringing episode one of 07th Expansion’s 2007 visual novel Umineko Ni Naku Koro Ni to Steam later this year under the title Umineko: When They Cry. The novel will feature the original Japanese soundtrack, the ability to switch between new sprites exclusive to this version of the game, and those found in the Japanese version, which were drawn by author Ryukishi07. The translation for this new version of Umineko will be provided by The Witch Hunt — a fan group which previously released a patch based translation for the Japanese version of the game.

Game: Higurashi Onikakushi Developer: 07th Expansion Publisher: Mangagamer Release Date: 5/5/2015
A copy of this game was provided by the publisher for the purpose of review.
Despite being over ten years old, Higurashi is a story that has nevertheless stood the test of time. From its incredibly atmospheric music, to the intense sense of paranoia that permeates every corner of the game’s lengthy story, there is simply something timeless about this tale of murder, vengeful gods, and the insular nature of small-town life. What has lent Higurashi this longevity while many of the other visual novels from the same era have fallen into obscurity? That is the question [...]
This weekend I had the honor of attending Anime Central, one of the largest anime conventions in the Midwest, as a press representative for APGNation. While this was my first time acting as press at a convention, everyone involved in ACEN’s Press Department was incredibly kind, and everything went extremely smoothly. However, I will speak more about that in my recap of the con. Today I’d like to talk about one of the guests of honor: Ryukishi07, founding member of 07th Expansion and the author of popular visual novels like Umineko, Higurashi, and Rose Gun Days.
Some of readers may remember the first interview with Ryukishi07 back in [...]
07th Expansion, the doujinshi circle responsible for both the “Higurashi and “Umineko” series of visual novels, announced yesterday via Twitter that they have begun development on a new visual novel. The game will be titled “TRianThorogy ~Alice in the Country of the Three-Sided Mirror~” and will feature an Alice In Wonderland-theme. On board to write the project are industry veterans Romeo Tanaka, author of the “Humanity has Declined” book series, and Yuto Tonokawa, a writer and composer who has previously contributed to Key’s “Little Busters” and “Rewrite” projects, while 07th Expansion founder and writer [...]
Today we have a very special interview for you all, as I sat down with Ryukishi07 to talk about his works, how a visual novel becomes an anime, and what it takes to become a successful writer.
But before we get to the core of the interview, I’d like to share with you all a bit about Ryukishi07 and his work. One of the founders of the doujin circle 07th Expansion, Ryukishi07 first rose to prominence for his work on the 2002 visual novel Higurashi, a tale in which a small town in 1980’s Japan is plagued by a mysterious disease, for which he not only wrote the the scenario, but also drew and designed most of the game’s characters [...]
