Gaming on a Budget: 10/16/15 Edition

This is kind of expensive week. I hope everyone will forgive this transgression, but there’s some really good games on sale. One of them we reviewed personally, and while it’s close to $40.00, it’s still a hell of a discount. Here we go!

Good Night. Good Luck. Dying light is one of those games that tells you the developers realised their previous mistakes. The genesis of the game was the Dead Island series. While not overly successful, it did teach developers Techland what to do and what not to. They carried that knowledge into Dying Light, expanding on problems in the previous games; fixing them and refining them. While Dying Light featured a similar [...]

Players of Dying Light will be able to enter the contest by crafting their own custom map using the Dying Light Development Tools — a free download that can be found on Steam — and then submitting it via the game’s website. A new and strange event hits the world of Dying Light on April 1st that will give survivors a hilarious edge over the shambling undead.

According to an in-universe broadcast from the Global Relief Effort, or GRE, survivors in-game will encounter a strange batch of Antizens that have been contaminated by an unknown source. ‘Dying Light’s’ Jade Aldemir Is an Empowered Character, Despite Claims

Nearly two months ago, Dying Light writer Dan Jolley wrote a blog post on his website The Jolleyverse detailing what he thought was a favorable outcome to something that bothered him about the industry: the poor and shallow portrayal of female characters in game stories. As Dan puts it,

The problem didn’t involve any issues with creating fun, immersive, successful games; their Call of Juarez series was a long-standing fan favorite, and they scored massive hits with Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. They knew how to tell a solid story, too, with talented writing teams led by novelist Rafał W. Orkan.

No, the problem they faced involved something that has received more [...]

Back in early 2011, a promotional trailer was released to announce game studio Techland’s newest creation: Dead Island. The trailer was widely praised, and to this day stands as an example of how to create hype around your product. Today Techland, the Polish developer behind Dying Light, announced that they have no plans to release the zombie-themed game on the Xbox 360 and PS3 as they had in previous statements.
