Ahead of this weekend’s Game Developer Conference, Frontier Developments has announced that they will be porting their popular massively multiplayer space game Elite: Dangerous to the Xbox One sometime in 2015. Today at PAX South, APGNation’s Luis Angeles interviewed Frontier Development’s Producer Eddie Symons about Elite Dangerous. We reviewed Elite Dangerous previously and the game was impressive, to say the least. Eddie was kind enough to shed some light on some of the lingering questions raised in the review. While unable to comment on the radical redesign of the Fer De Lance from its initial concept to its current concept art, Eddie was happy to discuss some of the features of the upcoming Elite Dangerous content expansion (Patch 1.1) currently slated for February.
“Community Goals… missions that everyone can take part in together… everyone working [...]
So the year is up and I’ve not played nearly as many games as I normally do. Maybe it’s just that I’m getting older, but I seem to be getting more and more picky with games I bother to spend time on. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played a game for less than an hour before putting it down and never playing it again. I used to always think kids had short attention spans but maybe I was wrong. Less free time and a general jaded attitude may make the aging gamer market even harder to find success in than the younger demographic. That said, here are the top five games that did more than just catch my attention over the last year, in no particular [...]

Elite: Dangerous is an online space combat/trading game based upon the original Elite released in 1984 on the BBC. In Elite Dangerous, you take the role of a space ship commander (CMDR) and your goal is to become “Elite” rank in one of three categories: Exploration, Trading, and Combat. Those will be your primary means to make money in Elite Dangerous. Trading can consist of running trade routes, smuggling goods, hauling contracts, mining asteroids, or even fencing stolen goods you picked up via [...]
Elite: Dangerous has launched — so far the servers have been stable and while download speeds for the client are not fantastic, they are serviceable. Elite appears to have benefited greatly from its lengthy Alpha, Beta, and Gamma phases leading up to the games release. It’s clear that Elite: Dangerous will be remembered as a true Kickstarter success, raising just over 1.5 million dollars nearly two years ago. Eager players are getting their first taste of Elite, while some old hands are reliving the glory days of the original Elite game with graphical fidelity no one could have dreamed of back in 1984. Be sure to check out the Elite: Dangerous Launch Trailer:
With the release date looming, Elite Dangerous gears up with an all new cinematic launch trailer and an all new gamma release. The game’s debut is less than a week away now and it’s really shaping up with a huge change log recently released for Gamma 2.0 and critical features of the game finally being implemented. The trailer is really great but like most game cinematic trailers, it bears little resemblance to actual game.
The Gamma 2.0 client for Elite Dangerous was just released and the change log is absolutely massive. Gamma 2.0 adds some very important features including two new ships the Adder and Type 7. The very important feature of route planning has been [...]
I’ll confess I’ve got a new addiction — it’s Elite Dangerous. I grew up and started PC gaming in the late 90’s but I didn’t get to play the truly great space simulator games when they came out. I played and loved the Wing Commander franchise and a few other space combat games here and there, but the genre more or less died in the 2000’s when graphics and sound design really came into their own. It was a little surprising to me that the genre died down as it did because space combat games are some of the easiest games to make visually impressive — most the time you’re rendering a skybox, a few ships, and a couple of orbital objects. There is a [...]
