Alasdair Fraser’s Game of The Year 2015

This year has been a wonderful one for gaming. While I haven’t managed to play as many titles to completion as I would have liked, I was still chuffed with 2015’s offering. Having made the switch from my ailing PC to the Xbox One, I was able to pick up some of the current crop of triple-A titles. As such I have decided to run through some of the games I enjoyed this year, followed by my runners up and then finally my game of the year.

So many great games came out near the end of this year, leading to a substantial backlog, and that doesn’t even include the plethora of games that Xbox have welcomed back into my living room with its Backwards [...]

Mass Effect Andromeda Gameplay Details Leaked

According to moderators at Reddit’s r/masseffect, an anonymous source with access to an early build of Mass Effect Andromeda – the forthcoming installment of Bioware’s famous space RPG series – contacted them and shared details of the early game’s gameplay features.

The moderators explained that the source wanted them to reveal the information for fear that it would be “dismissed as fake” if the source had posted it him or herself. The moderators then claimed they were not supplied with any materials from the game such as videos or photos, but insisted that their source “supplied proof” that they were indeed someone who had played an [...]

Gaming On a Budget 4/30/2015 Edition

This week on Gaming On a Budget, we are having a Bioware week. Some of the greatest sci-fi roleplaying titles of all time are now incredibly cheap.

Now we know that we have done these first two before, but they’re now part of a collection on Steam and honestly, is just too good a deal to pass up.

Mass Effect is a game that is considered somewhat of a spiritual successor to the astounding Knights of The old Republic series. Created by the same development team, it bore a sci-fi storytelling style similar to “Kotor” but with a more action-oriented feel. It put you in the shoes of an elite soldier who stumbles onto the greatest secret within human [...]

Gaming on a Budget 4/9/2015 Edition

We have some really brilliant offerings this week on Gaming on a Budget, two of which are from the same company—though they are wildly different games in terms of their spectrums and aspects explored.

Described as somewhat of a combination between Thief and Bioshock was the well-received Dishonored. Borrowing aspects from both, the game put you in the shoes of Corvo Attano—a palace guard charged with keeping the Empress of Dunwall safe. Failing in his charge, the Empress is killed and he is forced to flee. Plunged into a world of darkness and conspiracy, Corvo must clear his name and discover the actions of those who would conspire against the citizens of Dunwall. But [...]

[UPDATED] Actress Janina Gavankar Hints At Mo-Cap Role

UPDATE: Miss Gavankar has confirmed that her role will be part of the upcoming FarCry 4 game as the character Amita, who can be seen below.

Actress Janina Gavankar, via her Facebook page, hinted at her involvement as a motion capture actress in a new Ubisoft title that she teases will be an “AAA” games. This has led to much speculation on Miss Gavankar’s page as to which one of Ubisoft’s many high profile IP’s that she maybe involved with. The guesses range from Assassins’ Creed and FarCry 4 to The Crew as well. There’s also an outside chance that Gavankar may be involved in an entirely new IP, but the actress did confirm the [...]

Bioware Cosplay At Dragon Con 2014

It’s no secret that Bioware has its fans all over the world. Just mention Mass Effect or Dragon Age in a crowd and I’m sure that you’ll get a response from one or a few who’ve played them and are excited to talk about one, the other, or both. Well, this is amplified a hundred times over at most conventions. Video game fans are a passionate crowd. Sometimes that passion teeters to the dark side, but for the most part, I like to think most fans are respectful and affectionate towards games and characters they love and spend time with. Bioware’s games tend to leave you feeling a part of their world instead of simply watching another’s world as it plays out. Fans take these [...]

Homosexuality In Video Games

I’m sure when you read that title, you had one of two reactions: “Yes, finally, gettin’ real up in here,” or “Here comes another crazy right-wing-left-hook.” Fortunately, neither of these reactions are necessary because this article isn’t about whether or not homosexuality is wrong, the legalization of gay marriage, or what I believe about homosexual lifestyles.

The question we’ll be talking about is simply, “What roll will homosexuality play in video games for the near future”?

Now, homosexuality in general has been featured in video games for some time from gay and lesbian NPC’s in Grand Theft Auto to [...]

Mass Effect 4 to launch in 2015

According to Bioware, Mass Effect 4, the latest game in the popular Sci-Fi RPG series, will be released in 2015. First announced at E3 this summer, Bioware promises not only that title will feature more of the gameplay that fans of the series have come to know and love, but also that the game it will feature an entirely new protagonist. On the subject of this new development, Bioware Community Manager Chris Priestly released the following statement:“We have already said that the Commander Shepard trilogy is over and that the next [Mass Effect] game will not feature him/her. That is the only detail you have on the game. I see people saying ‘Well, they’ll have to pick a canon ending.’ [...]

Exciting News from Denver Comic Con

If you weren’t in Denver this last weekend for Comic Con, that’s okay, because we were and there wasn’t a whole lot to do with video games. However, if you’re a Mass Effect or Dragon Age fan, there was something pretty cool that happened. There was a panel labeled Video Game Voices for video game voice actors featuring: Mark Meer who played the male version of Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, various characters throughout Dragon Age 1 and 2, and some smaller roles, mostly with developer Bioware. Jennifer Hale, who used to be the voice of gateway computers, went on to become the female version of Commander Shepard and many video game roles with a whole gamut of [...]
