I’ll get this out of the way right now; I adore the Neptunia series. I’ve played every main series title, all three of the Re;Birth remake for the PS Vita, Hyper Devotion Noir, and have watched the 2013 anime -even if it wasn’t all that great- But why, you might be asking yourself?
The answer is simple; despite its many flaws, the reused enemies, textures, dungeons, and bosses, and even in the face of a difficulty curve best resembles a sidewinding snake, there is just something about the Neptunia universe that I find utterly appealing despite how much of a mess it is. Its characters are lovable, the art is nice, and I even laugh at all of the dumb anime and [...]

The Neptunia series has never been very good. From the buggy first game in the series to 2013’s Neptunia Victory and beyond, every game in the series has reused the same monsters, dungeons, and character models as those that have come before it in an endless cycle of tedium that has somehow managed to drag on and earn a fanbase of its own despite its niche nature and repetitive game play. Yet I’ve somehow managed to [...]
Since the release of the retconned Hyper Dimension Neptunia for PS3, the series has managed to become one of the most prolific names of the last console generation with the support of its loyal but mostly underground fanbase. The game would go on to spawn two sequels, Neptunia MK2 and Neptunia Victory, for the PS3 — in August of this year an updated port of the original Neptunia game in the form of Hyper Dimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 was also released for Vita. Although not a mainstream favorite, Neptunia has won over many with its cute characters, fourth-wall breaking story, and all around weirdness.
For those not in the [...]
