“Hello hello! Thanks for coming back for another night!”
While many fans of the series expected that Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 was the last game in the series — due to the ending that dutiful players can achieve if the right conditions are met, and also partially to the epilogue of Night 6 (Nightmare) — Scott has once again dropped the bomb on a new FNaF title. Scott Games website posted a teaser image of Freddy’s hat alone in the spotlight, which many fans took to mean that the series had in fact concluded. However, the rumor mill began turning when the hat mysteriously vanished, leaving an empty spotlight on the websites front page.
Well, sure enough, just yesterday the image was again replaced by this gruesome looking Freddy holding a damaged hat daintily in his pointy, cold metal fingers. I mean, look at this guy. If Five Night’s at Freddy’s 3 was supposed to be set in a “horror attraction” in a theme park, I don’t know where this Hellraiser wannabe is going to fit in. Seriously, look at those teeth; they are sharp and deadly looking. And all those Freddy heads…. and…is that a tiny Freddy head, complete with hat, sticking out of his armpit? WTF? Not that I am complaining about this design, its creepy and looks great. I’m somewhat surprised it isn’t Springtrap, honestly, but I won’t count out our favorite Bonnie impersonator just yet as (SPOILER) the ending of FNaF3 doesn’t seem to give that particular murderous robot the same rest his counterparts received (SPOILER END).
I might be hearing yourself say “Well I guess I’ll be playing this (or not) in three months or so.” Not likely, as the game already looks like it has a Halloween release date planned, which gives Mr. Cawthon plenty of time to work on his game considering the short span the rest of the series experience during their development cycle. Maybe that will mean even more surprises and terrible secrets? We will have to wait until October to see, it seems.
Five Night’s at Freddy’s 4 is tentatively titled “The Final Chapter”, but given the success of the series so far and the nature of the genre I won’t be holding that title to be a definitive final game, as there could always be a “first” or “second” chapter the way the games background seems to present the lore. And, honestly, I would be way more interested to play a game in the first restaurants that are seemingly never shown in any of the games than a potential new establishment.
Whether or not this game will have anything to do with the recently announced Five Nights at Freddy’s film is yet to be seen, but my guess is that it probably won’t and that the movie will take place either during the first or second FNaF entries or during that span of time that is only referenced during the minigames of FNaF 2 and 3. Yes, I realize that is very vague, but we won’t know anything until we see some promotional work or trailers, and I have a feeling that they aren’t even settled on specifics yet anyway.
