Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft has exploded in popularity over the past year, stealing away my money and my time (far more than I can actually afford of either) and provided me with so many truly wonderful experiences. The obsession, which is only getting worse by the day, will turn into a problem soon. I’ll be opening my own chapter of Hearthstone Addicts Anonymous here in my own hometown soon. We accept all who are willing to admit their problem. We’ll forgo most of the rehabilatory work and mantras and just play Hearthstone instead.
I got lost there didn’t I? The game’s first true expansion, Goblins v. Gnomes, is out TODAY (December 8th). Blizzard, being the generous pushers that they are, will even give you the first three packs free. You know as a way to push you further down the rabbit hole that is this game. You can join the rest of us. All 20 plus million of us.
The expansion adds 120 new cards into the growing pool of potential plays one can make and those include new cards for each class, legendaries, neutrals and an entirely new type of card — mech. The mechanized cards vary in mana cost, attack and health and bring an entirely new wrinkle to overall feel of the game. There are cards that swing wildly from underpowered to completely insane with their effects. Blizzard has attempted to capture the feel of the very Goblins and Gnomes the expansion takes its name from. Their place in Warcraft lore has always been an interesting, if sometimes neglected one, and its nice to see some love given to the smallest in stature.
The overall strategy employed by casual and professional alike completely change from this day forth as this new expansion, Goblins vs Gnomes, goes live! Are you going to be diving in tonight or over the course of the next week? Be sure to log in by December 19th to get your three free packs! The rest will cost in-game gold or real hard earned currency. The meta is shifting again! Want to play me at a round of Hearthstone? Add my BattleTag (Granak#1369). For more gaming news and reviews?
