E3 2015: Square Enix Teases Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Square Enix tonight revealed that a remake of Final Fantasy 7 will be released for the Playstation 4 in 2016. The title was teased with a trailer showcasing a next generation take on the original title’s opening sequence in which Cloud Strife, Final Fantasy 7‘s protagonist, and his allies attempt to destroy a Mako Energy Reactor controlled by the Shinra Electric Company.


Final Fantasy 7 was originally released for the Playstation 1 in 1997 and was the both the first 3D entry in the series, as well as the first on a non-Nintendo console. The remake will join Final Fantasy 15 and Kingdom Hearts 3 as the first round of Square Enix games released for current generation consoles.
