There have been many games that I loved this year, but Bloodborne for the PS4 cinches the tops spot for my game of the year. From the immense difficulty to the rewarding and fast-paced gameplay to the horrifying enemy and level design. Add to this co-op play and the recently released DLC The Old Hunters and you have fun and invigorating new experience that definitely lives up to its Dark Souls brethren and makes it my favorite PS4 game this year.
My first runner-up for game of the year is Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. I’d lost faith in the franchise after it started coming out yearly, but this one actually broke the mold in many ways. The ability to play as two distinct assassins, skill trees, upgradeable equipment, fast and engaging storyline and some of the most polished gameplay the series has had to date; makes this a blast to play.
My second runner-up for game of the year is Kojima’s final game with the now infamous and hated Konami, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. I know that many disliked certain aspects of the game, but I loved it. It’s not without its story flaws and odd design choices (cough, cough microtransactions) but it’s a blast to play. I knew going in it would be a wild ride, and it definitely was. Hopefully, Kojima can cook up something even better with his development team in the future.
