Florists: The Art, Science, and Business of Blooms

0

When one walks into a flower shop, they’re met with a rush of delightful scents, a riot of colors, and a serene sense of beauty that only nature can provide. Yet, behind every bouquet, corsage, or single stem, there is a florist – an artist, a scientist, and a businessperson, all rolled into one.

The Artistry of a Florist

The art of arranging flowers is as old as civilization itself. Ancient Egyptians, for instance, used intricately designed floral arrangements during their burial ceremonies. Today, florists channel this age-old artistry to create pieces that evoke specific moods, convey sentiments, or celebrate occasions.

  1. Understanding Color: The language of color is universal. A florist understands that red roses symbolize love and passion, while yellow roses denote friendship. Combining various colors in a single arrangement can convey a spectrum of emotions.
  2. Shapes and Textures: Beyond color, a florist also plays with shapes and textures. The soft curve of a tulip, the ruffled edges of a carnation, and the sleek lines of bamboo can all be juxtaposed to create visual interest.
  3. Themes and Occasions: From birthdays and weddings to funerals and anniversaries, florists use their artistic talents to craft arrangements suited to the occasion.

The Science Behind the Blooms

While artistry is a significant aspect, floristry is also steeped in science.

  1. Botany: A deep understanding of plants is essential. Florists need to know how different flowers behave, their life cycles, and their care requirements.
  2. Preservation Techniques: Ensuring that flowers remain fresh for as long as possible requires knowledge of different preservation methods, from simple water changes to using preservatives.
  3. Environmental Knowledge: Flowers are sensitive to their environments. Florists must understand the right temperature, light conditions, and humidity levels to keep their blooms at their best.

Floristry as a Business

Like all trades, floristry isn’t just about passion and talent; it’s also a business.

  1. Sourcing and Logistics: Reliable suppliers are the backbone of any florist shop. Building a network of trustworthy growers and understanding the logistics of flower transportation is essential.
  2. Marketing and Trends: In the age of social media, a florist needs to be savvy about marketing their creations. Moreover, keeping up with the latest floral trends, from sustainable practices to new design philosophies, can set a florist apart in a competitive market.
  3. Customer Service: At its core, floristry is a service industry. Building relationships with customers, understanding their needs, and ensuring their satisfaction is paramount.

The Future of Floristry

With the rise of DIY culture and readily available online tutorials, one might wonder about the future of traditional florists. However, the touch, expertise, and personalized service a professional florist provides are irreplaceable.

Sustainability is also becoming a significant trend in the industry. From sourcing locally grown flowers to minimizing waste, the eco-conscious approach is reshaping the way florists operate.

Moreover, technology is opening up new avenues for florists. Virtual workshops, online consultations, and augmented reality apps that let customers preview arrangements before buying are just some of the innovations shaping the industry’s future.

Florists like Spearwood Florist in Perth WA are more than just sellers of flowers; they are artists, scientists, and businesspeople. Their role in our lives, marking our joys, consolations, celebrations, and everyday moments with the beauty of nature, is invaluable. As the world changes, so will the art and business of floristry, but its essence – bringing a touch of nature’s beauty into our lives – will remain timeless.

In conclusion, online pharmacies offer a range of benefits, including convenience, access to a wide range of medication, increased privacy, improved medication adherence, lower costs, access to professional advice, and easy access to medical records. However, patients should also exercise caution when using online pharmacies. They should only purchase medication from reputable online pharmacies and ensure that they have a valid prescription from a licensed healthcare provider. By using online pharmacies responsibly, patients can take advantage of the benefits they offer while ensuring their safety and well-being.

What Is Muscle Food? Charleston’s Andrew Demetre Explains How to Eat to Get Big

0

Food is what your body uses for fuel. So it’s only natural that you’d want to give it the right fuel to take your body goals in the right direction. But if you’ve spent most of your life munching without being mindful, you may need help hacking your pantry to get big.

In this blog, Andrew Demetre, Charleston-based fitness instructor, reveals everything you need to know about muscle food and the ways you can use this information to bulk up!

Finding the Right Foods for Fork to Fitness Fuel

Some foods are naturally incredible for gainers and lifters, while others are specifically marketed and designed to benefit them.

You’ll want to strike a good balance between eating enough of a balanced diet while supplementing with more functional foods to sustain more extended and more intense workouts. Here’s what you’ll want to add to your cart the next time you hit the grocery store.

High Protein

Foods high in protein are synonymous with muscle growth. If you aren’t incorporating protein into every meal and every snack, you’re wasting an opportunity to nourish your weary muscles with much-needed protein. You’ll commonly find protein in animal sources like eggs and meat and plant sources like tofu and beans.

Gainers can supplement their protein intake through bars, powders, and gels. If you’re trying to get big, consuming these isn’t necessarily vital, but they’re still a huge asset for anyone trying to get huge. Do your best to find protein sources that aren’t high in sugar for the best results.

Functional Carbs

Hopefully, the world is waking up to the power of good carbohydrates. They’re insanely powerful for post-workout muscle recovery and can help stamina during long workouts. Whole wheat bread or pasta is the perfect carb choice to keep healthy while bulking properly for workouts.

Not all carbs are created equal, so it’s important to watch for anything that’s primarily cheap sugars or syrups. These are hallmarks of the so-called “energy” bars common with many in the exercise world. Carbs derived from these sources may give you temporary energy, but it burns out fast and isn’t good for long-term growth.

Healthy Fats

Fats can also be your friend! But, like with carbs, you must keep an eye on which ones you’re ingesting and how much. Healthy fats from salmon or avocado boost energy and play nicely with healthy carbs and protein.

A Glimpse into Andrew Demetre, Charleston Fitness

The Gift Of Technology – Shopping For Medication Online

0

If there is one thing technology and the advent of the Internet has done, it’s that it has severely impacted the way we shop. In today’s world, technology is a gift that keeps on giving as online pharmacies now make it significantly easier for patients to access a wide variety of prescription and OTC medications at competitive prices.

So how can shopping for your medications online benefit you? Keep reading to find out.

Convenience

After everything that happened with Covid-19 and the lockdown, it goes without saying that most people now prefer to order whatever they need, and medications aren’t left out. Buying medications from online pharmacies like Canadian Pharmacy removes the burden of having to travel to your local pharmacy only to stand in long lines. Not to mention in situations where you are mobility challenged, you can rest easy knowing that your medications will be safely delivered to your doorstep.

Competitive Prices

Prescription medications are expensive, and they can add up to quite the sum on your medical bills (especially if you have to take them long-term). Buying these prescription medications at online stores affords you the opportunity to not only shop but compare different prices. Many online pharmacies like Canadian Pharmacy offer competitive prices on prescription, OTC, and even pet medications. In addition to these prices, you can also take advantage of the various discounts and referral bonuses that these stores offer.

Access To Trusted Experts

Reputable online pharmacies like Canadian Pharmacy will always have a licensed pharmacist available, including a qualified and professional staff to help you with your prescribed medication. The pharmacist ensures that your medications are safely and correctly dispensed while also ensuring to answer whatever questions or concerns you might have about them.

Easy And Simplified Process

Most online pharmacies take measures to make their website user-friendly so that the process of ordering and paying for your medications is easy and hassle-free. In most cases, all you have to do is create an account, add your medicines to the cart, submit your valid prescription and make payment. Once your order is validated, your medications will be delivered to your home.

Wide Range of Available Choices

We’ve all been in a situation where our local pharmacies don’t have the specific brand or type of medication we are looking for. Not to mention, there may also be a disparity in the prices of medicines at different pharmacies. A quick Internet search of the medication you are looking for not only affords you the opportunity to compare different prices but also makes it easier to get the specific brands you want. However, it is important that you exercise caution while doing these and only compare medications from well-accredited and certified online drug stores.

Discretion And Privacy

Another amazing benefit that online pharmacies offer is privacy and discretion so you won’t have to worry about embarrassing medical conditions. Also, a reputable online pharmacy will ensure that whatever information you provide during the purchase of your medicine is kept private and confidential. Your medications will also be delivered to your house in a discreet manner.

Conclusion:

Technology has, without a doubt, made different aspects of our lives easier. Thanks to online pharmacies, patients can now easily access the medication they need in a timely manner and from the comfort of their own homes. It is, however, crucial that you exercise caution as you shop for your medications online, as there are, unfortunately, many bogus online pharmacies. Be on the lookout for pharmacies that require a valid prescription, have a confirmed physical address and are accredited by the relevant bodies.

The Property Advocates Helps Floridians Understand How and When to Use Sandbags

0

An old-school tool is still being used all around the world in flood-prone areas to prevent water surges. It’s called a sandbag, and people who live in these areas, such as Florida, are sure to have seen — and possibly even used — them before.

The Property Advocates, P.A. is a full-service Florida insurance law firm specializing in property insurance claims, explains that there are many reasons why sandbags are still frequently used when inclement weather conditions such as hurricanes and storm surges are predicted to cause flooding. Not only are they inexpensive, but they are also extremely easy to use and easy to construct.

Sandbags aren’t completely water-tight, of course, but they are extremely effective at diverting water around whatever structure they are put in front of. As long as the sandbags are constructed and used properly, they will be effective at doing what they are intended to do.

Below is a description of where to get sandbags and how to build a sandbag wall.

Who Should Use Sandbags, and Where Can They Be Found?

People living in low-lying areas can use sandbags to divert water from entering their homes or businesses.

In some areas of South Florida, sandbags can be picked up from local hardware chains such as Lowe’s and Home Depot. Some local towns are also making them available for pickup at their town hall.

If people need to find where sandbags would be available, The Property Advocates suggests searching municipal and county websites first to see if they are giving them away to residents. Otherwise, people can search their local Home Depot or Lowe’s website to check their inventory.

How to Make Homemade Sandbags

Another option is for people to make homemade sandbags. The process is relatively simple but needs to be followed precisely to ensure it works properly.

The materials needed are burlap bags that are roughly 14×26 inches. The bag will then be filled with sand and will weigh anywhere from 30 to 45 pounds when filled completely.

According to The Property Advocates, it’s important to not fill the bag too much. The sandbag should be filled between one-half and two-thirds of the way full and then tied near the top.

How to Construct a Sandbag Wall

Once all the necessary bags are filled, they need to be stacked on a sandbag wall. Sandbags need to be laid flat, so it’s important to build the wall on even ground.

The sandbags should be placed in the direction of the flow of the water, with the bag’s open end folded underneath the rest of the bag. After placing the sandbags down, flatten them by stepping on them to create a seal that eliminates as many gaps as possible. It’s also important to lay the sandbags in a brick-like pattern, with one overlapping another below it.

The sandbag wall should be built three times as wide as it is high and in a pyramid shape if it’s wider than four bags.

As observed by The Property Advocates team, preparing and creating a proper sandbag wall is a smart way for people to protect their homes and businesses from floodwaters. So, before the next forecasted flood event, it’s important to conduct the proper preparation.

SBB Research Group on the Census of Jails

0

While many people are familiar with the United States Census every 10 years as mandated by the Constitution, over 100 different surveys are conducted by the US Census Bureau each year. SBB Research Group summarizes vital information from Census.gov about these lesser-known—but significant—surveys in this educational series.

What is the Census of Jails?

The Census of Jails is conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics and surveys over 3,000 local jails and 12 Federal Bureau of Prisons that function as jails. Temporary holding facilities and local jails in Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont are excluded from the census. The survey began in 1978 and publishes reports on various topics, including correctional populations, jail inmates, and the impact of COVID on the local jail population.

The most recent report is the Census of Jails, 2005-2019 Statistical Tables, which outline national, state, and local trends. The five states with the lowest incarceration rates (inmates per 100,000 state residents) were New Hampshire (103), New York (105), New Jersey (107), Maine (120), and Minnesota (121), all of which saw a decrease from 2005 to 2019. The five states with the highest rates were Louisiana (700), Kentucky (586), Mississippi (482), Tennessee (457), and Georgia (422). Whereas Tennessee, Mississippi, and Kentucky have increased incarceration rates since 2005. A significant majority (65.5%) of the confined inmates in jails across the U.S. await trial or other legal proceedings or are otherwise unconvicted.

Census of Jails

Note: Excludes data from the Federal Bureau of Prisons detention facilities and the jail and prison systems in Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Source: Bureau of Justice Statistics, Census of Jails, 2005 and 2019 Statistical Tables.

In a more comprehensive report, the Census of Jails and several other sources published Correctional Populations in the United States, 2020, the authors outline several trends across the entire correctional system (i.e., probation, parole, prison, and jail). Since 2010, there has been a steady decrease in adult individuals supervised by the correctional system — 7,089,000 in 2010 compared with 6,343,300 in 2019. Most adults (70%) under correctional supervision were paroled or on probation, and 30% were incarcerated in local jails and federal prisons. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the overall correctional population significantly decreased, driven by a drop in probation (-42%), prison (-33%), and local jail (-28%) populations, whereas the parole population had a slight increase of 1.7%. As a result, at the end of 2020, for the first time since 1996, the total number of adults in the correctional system dropped below 5.6 million (from 6,152,800 at the beginning of 2020 to 5,500,600 at the end of 2020).

How are These Data Used?

The data collected by the Bureau of Justice Statistics are used by federal, state, and local governments to examine the efficiency of the correctional system. For example, within Illinois, North Carolina, New Mexico, South Carolina, and Missouri, more than 80% of each state’s inmates in jails were unconvicted. Understanding these data contributes to the development of new policies that address inefficiencies in the judicial system and predict personnel and infrastructure needs for the correctional system.

What Is PCB Design and Advantages of each PCB type?

0

A printed circuit board (PCB) is a physical circuit design that is durable and highly reliable. Due to these qualities, it has become an essential part of any electronic device.

Made of a skinny substrate board, PCB is embedded with electronic components interconnected using a thin layer of interlinking copper traces. The substrate of this printed circuit board is usually fiberglass composite epoxy or other laminate materials.

Additionally, it contains both active and passive components. One could say that it can accommodate substantial and challenging courses in a small PCB design due to the availability of smaller and more advanced features.

Types of PCB

Types of PCB

When it comes to the types of PCBs, there are essentially three types:

  1. Single-side added: These are the most basic types of MCBs in the market, containing only one layer of base material or substrate, thinly covered with a metal such as a copper.
  2. Double-side added: This type of PCB has both sides of its base material covered in a layer of conductive metal. It also has holes, allowing these metal parts to be connected
  3. Multi-layered boards: As the name suggests, these involve more than two copper layers, such as 4L, 6L, and 8L, etc., giving them a high level of design flexibility.

Major Advantages of PCB

PCBs come with several advantages, which is why they’re in-demand in the market! Some of these advantages are:

  • Smaller and Thinner in size with a compact design
  • Highly customizable in design and application so that you can choose single-layered, double-layered, or multi-layered with 4L, 6L, and 8L, depending on your need.
  • Durable and reliable
  • Easy to repair and debug
  • Affordable and budget-friendly
  • Double-layered and multilayered PCBs allow a wide range of applications such as power monitoring, mobile phone, amplifiers, test equipment, and many more

Various Steps in PCB Design and Manufacturing

After knowing about PCBs, you must wonder how you design and manufacture a PCB, right? If you have all the tools, let’s simulate a PCB step by step in order of design rules!

PCB Design and Manufacturing

Step 1: Requirement analysis and Component selection

First off, you would have to analyze what your requirements are and then select the appropriate components. These components include things like power supply and processor etc. Keeping these requirements in mind, you must create a blueprint accordingly.

Step 2: In-System front-end design

Next up, you would have to devise the in-system front end design or the PCB layout, which is constructed with PCB design software. Some commercially available software are EAGLE, Autodesk, Altium Designer, CAD, and KiCAD EDA. Additionally, the output of the design we put in comes in the form of a PCB schematic Gerber file. This file is what encodes all the design information, such as the drill drawing, component notations, copper tracking layers, and other parameters.

Step 3: Photo tool initiation

Moving on, you would have to run the Design for Manufacture check before you start the board fabrication. This tool helps you avoid any contradictions in its design. Once checked, a laser printer makes a photo film to image your PCB design. These photo films are layered and aligned using precise holes in each movie to create a figure of the copper path.

Step 4: Printing the inner layers

Once the outer shell has been printed, you move on to the inner layers, being the substrate. This substrate usually comprises an epoxy substrate that is cut, cleaned, and dried. On both sides of this substrate, you would have to pre-bond copper.

Next up, the copper should be coated with a layer of photoresist cured with UV light to get hard. Once hardened, we take the film from the previous step, align the pin positions and place it over these internal components.

After this, you need to treat this entire panel with UV again to harden the areas with copper wiring.

Step 5: Etching out the unwanted copper

Once assembled, you would have to wash this panel with an alkaline solution to eliminate any unhardened copper. The needed copper layer would be safe beneath the hardened photoresist layer.

After the unhardened layer is removed, the photoresist layer is removed to leave us with the required copper.

Step 6: Register punching for layer alignment

Once all the layers and components are aligned, they must be optically punched.

Step7: Automated optical inspection

After getting punched, this automatic optical inspection should detect any errors within the inner layers.

Step 8: Layer up and bond

This step uses an aluminum plate for laminating all the layers together. Double and multilayered PCBs just get lined with insulating layers within each press.

Step 9: Drilling

Once laminated, these layers get drilled to create holes 100 to 150 microns wide for electronic components.

Step 10: Copper deposition and platting

Next up, the whole piece is covered in a layer of copper to bond the panels and make the entire article conductive. This plating is done through electrolysis.

Step 11: Outer layer imaging and copper etching

Like step 3, a photoresist material is applied over this, and any unwanted copper has scraped away. After this step, the PCB connections are established.

Step 12:  Solder mask application

Once the board is clean, a solder mask is applied to protect it from damage, corrosion, or copper oxidation. Additionally, epoxy is used to give it a green color, and an unwanted solder mask is scraped away.

Step 13: Gold or Silver surface finish

Next, you plate this PCB with silver, gold, or lead-free HASL so the pads created can be soldered, and copper is protected.

Step14: Silkscreen

This is a process where you print all the crucial information to the PCB, such as the company name, manufacturer’s ID, debugging points, and component numbers.

Step 15: Electrical test

A probe tester would be used for this step to perform open and short circuit, electrical, and functional tests to ensure durability and reliability.

Step 16: V-Scoring

This manufactured panel is what will give us the actual PCB. For that, V-cuts are made on the sides of the board according to what shape and size we need, and the PCB pops out.

Step 17: Final inspection and packing

Lastly, the PCB should go through a final visual and quality inspection. Once approved, it is to be vacuum sealed for protection.

Conclusion

PCB design process and PCB manufacturing is a requirement-driven and highly customizable process that enables us to produce specific circuit functions, whether complex or straightforward. So, you can create one depending on your requirements. Remember that precision and cleanliness are the essential precautions in Arshon Technology.

Internet Pharmacy: A Key Bridge Between Drug Demand And Supply

0

In recent years, there’ve been a lot of factors that have lead to drug shortages. From the soaring prices of prescription medication and issues with the supply chain to geographical boundaries, many patients are unable to access the medication that they need in a timely manner. Thankfully with technology and the advent of Internet pharmacies (online pharmacies), there has been a significant improvement in patient’s access to medications. Keep reading to see how Internet pharmacies are bridging the gap between drug demand and supply.

Better access

Geographic restrictions contribute largely to the poor access patients have to their medications. For people who live in rural areas, getting a timely supply of medications can prove difficult. Internet pharmacies take away this difficulty. With just a few clicks, patients get to browse through a wide variety of products that can be delivered right to their doorstep, thus, spreading access and increasing the availability of medicines to many.

Most of these Internet pharmacies like Canada Drugs also provide access to detailed descriptions of each product they sell, including the services of a licensed pharmacist for any questions patients have about dosage, drug interactions, and side effects.

Availability

Many traditional brick and mortar pharmacies may not be able to meet the demand of customers when it comes to finding specific brands of medication. Buying medications online, however, affords patients the opportunity to conveniently shop different stores till they find the specific brand of medication they are looking for.

Lower prices

Another factor that greatly influences the supply of medications to patients is money. With the prices of prescription medications constantly on the rise, many patients are looking for cost-effective ways to fill their prescriptions. Online pharmacies offer very competitive prices on all types of prescription and over the counter medications (generic and brand-name). Many of them also offer coupons and discounts on referrals.

Convenience

Not every patient can walk or drive to get their prescriptions filled at a local pharmacy. Internet pharmacies offer the convenience of allowing patients to access their medications and get expert medical advice from the comfort of their homes. Online pharmacies are also available 24/7, so patients will not only be able to put in orders at any time, but someone is always available to attend to their needs at all hours.

Some online pharmacies offer automatic refills as part of the services they provide. This enables proper drug management as patients won’t have to worry about missing or forgetting to put in orders for their refills.

Ease of use

Another great way Internet pharmacies are improving drug supply is their ease of usage, even with the elderly. The process of buying medication at online pharmacies is quite simple and straightforward. Comparing prices and products is also much easier this way.

Conclusion:

Internet pharmacies are providing a solution for the issues that most patients have with accessing the right medication at the right time. They are meeting consumer demands by making drugs available, affordable and easier to access.

Ilija Jahura Talks About 4 Types of Strength and How They Benefit Your Fitness

If you want to get fit, you likely know the importance of building strength. But, did you know there are actually four different types of strength?

Fitness expert Ilija Jahura understands that knowing about the different types of strength is important if you want to improve your overall fitness. Here’s an explanation on each, and how you can improve each one.

1. Relative Strength

Relative strength is a measurement of how much weight someone can move when compared to their bodyweight. So, instead of comparing how much one individual can lift, for example compared to another person, you would see how much they can lift relative to their own bodyweight.

This comes into play in competitions that are separated into weight classes, such as wrestling, MMA and boxing. But, building relative strength is also useful for anyone who wants to keep their weight at a certain level while also building strength.

A great way to do this is to perform brief voluntary contractions of your muscles at maximum effort. This involves exercises in a range of three to five reps at top effort.

2. Absolute Strength

Absolute strength, sometimes referred to as maximal strength, is a measurement of the total force your muscles can exert for any particular action. It’s the simplest form of strength measurement, since it involves just charting how much total weight you can lift.

Power lifters are often focused on absolute strength, since this is how they are measured in competitions. In everyday life, absolute strength comes into play when you need to lift or move a heavy object, such as a couch or a big rock.

To build absolute strength, powerlifters focus on doing what’s known as 1RM, or one rep max in three different types of lifts. These are the bench press, the deadlift and the squat.

3. Strength Endurance

Strength Endurance measures your ability to exert force repeatedly over time. In most cases, it will involve exercises that you will perform at a relatively low- to mid-strength level over and over again, rather than a heavy amount of weight in a few short reps.

To build your strength endurance, you can perform exercises such as hill sprints, sled pushes and weightlifting at a high volume. These exercises will have your muscles feel like they’re burning as you’re pushing yourself. You’ll be resting as little as you can to fight through the lactic acid levels in your muscles.

4. Explosive Strength

Explosive Strength, sometimes also referred to as power strength, measures the speed at which you can use the strength you have. As Ilija Jahura explains, if it takes you longer to lift a weight than someone else, it may indicate that you have less explosive strength, or power.

An easy way to think of this is if you punch a target. If you do it too slow, you will lack power behind the punch.

To build your explosive strength, you’ll do heavy lifting at high speed for a short period of time. You’ll do this over a few different rep sets, with long periods of rest in between.
